Recipe Directions
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and stir until a dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. In a small bowl, mix together the shredded cheese, melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions.
Roll each portion of dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
Spread half of the cheese mixture evenly over each rectangle of dough.
Starting from one long side, roll the dough into a tight log.
Use a sharp knife to slice the log in half lengthwise, leaving one end intact.
Twist the two halves together, then pinch the ends to seal.
Transfer the twisted bread to the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
